With the Lakers looking to acquire new talent and unburden themselves of veteran contract, Lonzo Ball finds himself in a speculative position. The Lakers' brass might fancy the player they have in Lonzo Ball, but if they are to find the proper group, many players including the former UCLA standout may be shown their marching orders. His father LaVar, for one, remains unconcerned. He told TMZ, "If they wanna trade him, trade him. It'll be the worst move they ever made."
The Big Baller Brand CEO was reacting to trade rumors involving Kawhi Leonard and his son Lonzo Ball, when he made his comments. Those trade rumors seem to have been personally debunked by the Lakers' front office. Apparently, San Antonio Spurs' were somewhat discourteous when the Lakers' tried to initialize trade talks.
LaVar has full confidence in his son's ability. "He's gonna do his thing. I'm not worried about no trades," he said inferring Lonzo Ball's place was in the NBA regardless of the colors on his kit. These comments upset the narrative he's been pushing of his three boys playing close to home. Lonzo's younger brother LiAngelo for that matter, has an uphill ahead of him, if he'd to make an NBA roster, much less his hometown Lakers. All 30 teams present at the 2018 NBA Draft passed up on the opportunity to secure his services.
Until further notice, Lonzo is an important piece for the Lakers going forward, but all that could change in an instant, as we've seen countless times before. "Somebody will take all 3 of my boys and whoever do, guess what -- championship," says LaVar. Would you bet against him?
