Billboard's Women in Music Awards took place last night where the honouray woman of the year was Ariana Grande. "This is really special. I want to say that I find it interesting that this has been one of the best years in my career and, like, the worst of my life," the "Thank U, Next" singer told the audience of women.
Among the amazing female musicians that attended the event was the lovely Janelle Monae who dared to wear striped chaps, perfectly executing the whole look.

Janelle took home the Trailblazer Award at the event and her speech detailed just exactly what the recognition means to her. “I’ve discovered the most difficult trail to blaze is the one that takes us inside of who we are, individually and as a whole,” she said, via Page Six. “Being a trailblazer is about diving into spaces unseen and undiscovered, which can be very exciting and frightening at the same time.”
Earlier this year Janelle dropped off a video for her single “Pynk” from her Dirty Computer album and the pants in the video impacted her fans way more than she could have imagined. "I’m so tickled and honored that people are talking about the ‘Pynk’ pants, I think that it’s so cool to have discussions around women’s issues and women’s bodies, I think it’s amazing,” she told PEOPLE.
