It's been 54 years between the original and the (impending) sequel of Mary Poppins, which is apparently the longest running gap between live-action sequels in our film history according to Uproxx. After serving a teaser, which didn't say much of anything, the full-length trailer for Mary Poppins Returns released today.
The trailer depicts Mary Poppins, who is played by Emily Blunt, transcending from the clouds (in typical fashion) on a grey, windy day in London. Arriving into the Banks household she makes her mission statement clear: "I've come to look after the Banks children."
Read the official film synopsis below:
In Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, an all-new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
The film releases on December 29th. Watch the trailer below.
