UFC 231 Weigh-In: Holloway vs Ortega Main Event Is On

Max Holloway to defend his Featherweight title against Brian Ortega this Saturday in Toronto.

The UFC 231 main event is officially a go. 

Brian Ortega and Featherweight champion Max Holloway both checked in under the 145-pound limit today; Ortega weighing in at 144.75 and Holloway at 144.5. 

The two fighters were originally scheduled to face off at UFC 226, but the bout was called off when Holloway was deemed medically unfit to compete. Holloway, 19-3, was also was removed from a last-minute lightweight title shot against Khabib Nurmagomedov in April.

The 27-year old Hawaiian has not fought since last December, when he defeated Jose Aldo for the second consecutive time at UFC 218 by way of third round TKO. Ortega (14-0, 1 NC) KO'd Frankie Edgar in the first round of his last fight at UFC 222 back in March.

Holloway is a slight favorite to retain the Featherweight title at (-115), though Ortega isn't far off with odds of (-105).

UFC 231 goes down this Saturday, December 8 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The main card is scheduled to kickoff at 10pm ET.

In addition to the much anticipated fight between Holloway and Ortega, the card also features a co-main event for the vacant women's flyweight between former bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko and former strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Shevchenko (15-3) weighed in at 123.5 pounds this morning and is a heavy favorite (-300) over Jedrzejczyk, who checked in at 123.75 pounds at the official weigh-in.
