2018, while bountiful in ways, has been sorely lacking in one department. The presence of Metro Boomin. Though the prolific producer has emerged on occasion, most notably for Nicki Minaj and Swae Lee's haunting "Chun Swae," the game has been lacking Metro's eerie trap aesthetic for a minute. True, his departure has allowed room for new voices to shine, like Tay Keith, Ronny J, and IllaDaProducer, but as Timbaland once said: "it's been a long time, he shouldn't have left us without a dope beat to step to."
Luckily, it seems that Metro is about ready to return to the fold. Frequent collaborator Offset recently took to Instagram to tease an imminent comeback, in a mysterious manner all-but-perfected by rappers. "WE COOKIN SUM SPECIAL," writes Offset, alongside a picture of the two buds, who previously linked up for the underrated Halloween soundtrack Without Warning.
Recall that last year found Metro teasing his retirement, but those willing to look between the lines have gathered he was simply returning the studio to replenish his vaults. After all, he went hard in 2017, providing Gucci Mane, Offset & 21 Savage, and Big Sean with collaborative albums, among various loosies.
