Yesterday we reported on the unfortunate passing of legendary wrestling interviewer Gene Okerlund. He was 76 at the time of his passing and when the news broke, the WWE community paid their respects online.
Today, TMZ reported that Okerlund's son Todd confirmed that Okerlund had suffered a bad fall back in December which triggered a series of complications that eventually lead to his passing. Okerlund's son said Gene had suffered multiple broken ribs when he fell at his home in Florida.
According to TMZ, Okerlund had been brought to a nursing home just four days ago. When he started to have trouble breathing, he was brought to a hospital on Wednesday and eventually passed away.
"It was impossible not to crack a smile whenever 'Mean' Gene Okerlund entered a room. He was the voice behind so many of WWE’s most iconic and entertaining moments, and the WWE family will miss him immensely," Vince McMahon said in a statement.
Wrestler Triple H also took to Twitter saying "A voice and soundtrack to an entire era of our industry. He was the star of some of @WWE’s most memorable segments. “Mean Gene” was beloved by all who got to work with him. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."
