As fate would have it, the Jacksonville Jaguars got their shot at redemption Sunday evening and didn't intend on wasting it when they went up against the New England Patriots in a game that signaled revenge for the loss they suffered at the hands of the Pats in last year's AFC Championship game.
It was a score of 31-20 that would signal a victory for the Jags as quarterback Blake Borltes put on a stellar performance completing 29 of 45 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns while his accompanying defense held off New England for 301 yards, marking the first time that the Jaguars have defeated the Patriots in the regular season.
“We didn’t do a good enough job in any area,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick admitted after the game. “There’s a long list. Playing, coaching, every part of the game just wasn’t good enough. We didn’t do anything that we really needed to do to win this game [or] give ourselves a chance to win it. The results were what they were.”
On the Patriots' end, Tom Brady went 24 for 35 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. They signaled toward a comeback in the second half, forcing a fumble, and managing an interception. But, their performance ultimately couldn't match up.
“You have a bad day against a good team, that’s a recipe for losing,” Brady said. "We’ve got to make an improvement. I think September, October, that’s what it’s for,” Brady said. “I think there’s a lot of practices we need, a lot of time that we need to figure out what we do well and what we don’t do so well. But you’ve got to try to win in the meantime.”
Next up, the Jaguars will face the Tennessee Titans while the Patriots go up against the Detroit Lions on Sunday the 23rd.
