Houston Texans' Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has announced that he'll be donating his playoff paycheck to the family of 7-year old Jazmine Barnes, who was tragically shot and killed on a Texas highway this past weekend.
Hopkins posted the following on social media today: "When I see Jazmine Barnes' face, I see my own daughter. I'm pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs and to support @shaunking @SherriffED_HCSO @SylvesterTurner in bringing this man to justice. On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine."
The Texans will host the Indianapolis Colts at 4:35pm this Saturday, January 5.
According to reports, Jazmine was killed around 7 AM on Sunday, when a man in a red pickup truck pulled up next to the family car and opened fire. Her mother, LaPorsha Washington, was also struck in the attack, but she survived. Her three sisters are still recovering from injuries sustained by shattered glass during the shooting.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said, "There was nothing to indicate that the family did anything wrong in any way ... They were simply just driving along the service road when this happened to them." Police are now searching for the suspect, described as a white, bearded man in his 40s who was driving a red, extended-cab pickup truck.
