Two people have been killed and a dozen others were injured when a lone gunman began opening fire on customers shopping in Toronto on Sunday evening. According to a report by BBCthe gunman began the rampage near a popular piazza with a fountain in the Greektown district of Toronto. Several citizens at the Demetres cafe were injured in the shooting, while others in the street were caught in the shooting as well. Motives for the attack have not been discerned, and the gunman has yet to be identified by police. 

One of the victims was a young woman, while the other is a child no older than nine who was in critical condition but passed away soon after. The suspect, who was 29 years old, was found dead on Danforth Avenue after fleeing police on Bowden Street. It is unclear whether he killed himself, or if the ongoing shootout with police ended his life. 

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to offer his condolences on Monday morning. "My thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible tragedy on the Danforth last night in Toronto," he wrote. "The people of Toronto are strong, resilient and brave - and we’ll be there to support you through this difficult time." A video clip of the attack has been making its rounds online. In the video, a white man wearing a dark cap and dark clothing carrying a bag can be seen pulling out a handgun before firing shots.
