When a musician is announced to be "opening" an awards show, it's usually assumed to be a performance. That was the conclusion most fans jumped to when Cardi B was pegged for the VMAs, but according to a report from TMZ, Cardi's appearance will not be her first performance since giving birth to baby Kulture. Instead, it's likely to be some sort of monologue or skit.
Per the report, Kulture will not be involved in what Cardi has planned. At this point, it's not even clear whether Cardi will be at the show or has taped her segment in advance. One thing's for sure, her ability to entertain extends far beyond her musical output, and whatever it is she's doing to welcome viewers to the show, it should be one to remember.
As a whole, the VMAs will hardly be short on performances. Post Malone, Travis Scott, Logic, and Ariana Grande are among those confirmed for this year's show. Also, Nicki Minaj will deliver a "special remote performance" from "a secret, iconic location in New York." Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the event and will share a performance of her own.
The awards will air tonight at 8PM on MTV. Tune in to see what Cardi B has up her sleeve.
