The final season of Game of Thrones is approaching. In roughly half a year, fans of the fantasy drama will be blessed with the most epic outing a series has ever delivered. At least, that's what we've been promised. The cast and producers on the show have gone to great lengths to keep details about the plot under wraps. For years, Game of Thrones followed the narratives that were laid out in the novels the series is based on. During the show's sixth season, HBO outpaced the novels and began to draw influence from creator George R.R. Martin in person instead. That meant fans who thought they knew it all were left guessing along with those who watched and never read the books. Blanketed in a veil of darkness, Game of Thrones fans began to dig for any spoilers they could find.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Game of Thrones' producers used drone killers to prevent leaks for the final season. The device shuts down drones flying above attempting to grab videos or photos of the show's set. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the show, first brought up the devices at New York Comic Con. “If a drone flies above sets, there’s a thing that can kill the drones, which is really cool,” she said. “It creates a field around it and the drones just drop. It’s very X-Men.” The Los Angeles Times did a piece on the drone killing tech earlier this year, describing the device as "an electronic device that can disable a drone in the sky and force it back to the ground." The device looks like a gun, and can shoot up to half a mile at a target. The drone killers cost about $30,000.
