The Cincinnati Bengals reportedly fear that star running back Joe Mixon will need arthroscopic surgery to clean up the knee he injured in Thursday night's 34-23 win against the Baltimore Ravens. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, Mixon will get a second opinion first, but the team is expecting him to be out of action for several weeks.
The 22-year old running back exited Thursday's game on two separate occasions as a result of the knee injury, but still managed to rush for 84 yards on 21 carries. In the Bengals Week 1 victory against the Indianapolis Colts, Mixon carried the ball 17 times for 95 yards and a touchdown. He also caught five passes for an additional 54 yards.
Next up on the Bengals' backfield depth chart is Giovani Bernard, who will get a majority of the carries while Mixon recovers from surgery. Bernard rushed six times for 27 yards and caught four passes for 15 yards while filling in for Mixon on Thursday night.
The Bengals, 2-0, will travel to Carolina to take on the Panthers in Week 3.
