John Bain, known as TotalBiscuit, was a popular video game critic. His YouTube page boasts 2.2 million subscribers, and Bain was known to be a vocal supporter of indie games and original content. According to CNN, the highly respected critic passed away on Thursday (May 24) at the age of 33. Bain had been battling cancer for four years.
Bain was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014, and he announced the disease was terminal the next year. The cancer spread to his liver and other parts of his body. His wife Gemma Bain posted the poem "Love Constant Beyond Death" by Francisco de Quevedo on Twitter in a heartfelt and emotional tribute to her late husband. "Rest in Peace my Dearest Love, John @Totalbiscuit Bain, July 8, 1984 - May 24, 2018," she captioned the post.
Bain announced about a month ago on Reddit that he was retiring from critiquing games, and that his cancer was no longer responding to the chemotherapy. "Conventional treatments ineffective, liver too damage for clinical trials that we know of. I'm retiring as a critic to spend whats left of my life sharing my love of gaming with my wife and all of you via co-op videos and streams," he wrote as his last public update.
