Snapchat will be joining the ranks of Facebook, Apple and other companies offering original programming with the forthcoming reality television series Endless Summer. The show will be handled by Bunim-Murray Productions, the studio behind Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and will star YouTube personality Summer Mckeen.
Endless Summer is currently in production, and will debut on the widely-used social media app in September. The program is being touted as a coming-of-age story, and will follow 19-year-old Mckeen, a beauty and fashion vlogger, as she relocates to Laguna Beach to live on her own for the first time; her boyfriend, Dylan Jordan, lives next door.
Snap's emphasis on producing original programming is informed by an initiative to showcase "compelling people around the world as they go through dramatic life moments, incredible journeys, and challenging relationships."
Endless Summer will feature real-life people who are placed into scripted storylines, akin to MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills. The series will also become the first Snapchat Show to come equipped with a successional story arch.
