TMZ caught up with Saul Canelo Alvarez for a translated interview in light of his rematch with Gennady Golovkin on Saturday. Their first encounter is shrouded in controversy. The panel of ringside judges scored the fight a draw, even though "GGG" looked the more active of the two fighters by a long yard. Even so, Canelo told TMZ that his aim is to put Gennady Golovkin on the canvas within the first round of action: "Without a doubt, I’ll be going in there to knock him out, that's what I’ve worked for," he conveyed through a translator.
The controversy didn't die down with the disputed decision -- the original date for rematch had to be reworked because Saul failed a PED test, his reasoning: it must have passed through his system courtesy tainted meat he'd eaten in his native Mexico. Barring any "backroom politics," the rematch set for this Saturday (September 16th) is being billed as more than a unification fight for all the Middleweight straps, but as the deciding vote in choosing the number one spot on the Pound for Pound list, regardless of division.
If successful, Golovkin will have defended his Middleweight crown an astounding 21 times without incurring a loss. Be sure to watch the fight, it might be one for the ages.
