The Minnesota Vikings have announced that Tony Sparano, the team's Offensive Line coach has passed away at the age of 56. The longtime NFL coach died quite unexpectedly after undergoing tests at a local hospital on Thursday after coming down with a mysterious case of chest pain. Sparano was then released on Friday where he appeared to be in good standing until his wife found him lying unconscious this morning as the couple was preparing to attend Sunday service.
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman shared the tragic news in a press release forwarded to several sports media outlets. The statement read: "I am at a loss for words with Tony's sudden passing. Tony loved the game of football and his players. More importantly, he was a strong man of faith who treasured his family. My heart is with the Sparanos today. As an organization we will support them in whatever ways we can."
Sparano had worked the past two years on the Minnesota Vikings' coaching staff, having previously held positions with over 8 other NFL franchise over his 19 year career. His most accomplished tenures were as head coach of the Miami Dolphins between 2008-11, and as the interim head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Our thoughts are with Tony and his family.
