Daytona is finally upon us. In honor of his latest Kanye West produced album, Pusha T hit up The Breakfast Club to talk shop with Charlamagne, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy.
While the album has been acclaimed upon arrival, many have walked away excited over the Drake shots on "Infrared." Pusha addresses Drake (catch up on why they're beefing here) around the fifteen minute mark, after Charlamagne asks if Wayne or Drake ever reached out. Pusha mischievously claims that Drizzy seemed to reach out on "2 Birds 1 Stones," prompting Charlamagne to respond with a concrete "he definitely did." When asked if the More Life track was the catalyst for "Infrared," Pusha keeps no secrets. "Yeah," he says. "I felt like it was to be responded to. You know, at the same time, it's about...it's music, but who gets to talk to who?"
He continues, dropping the vagueness for a more solid line of reasoning. "There are really writers out here, who really do this, who really enjoy the craft of this. Then there are other artists who make great music, and they put it together how they put it together. I don't feel like we get to have that conversation." Charlamagne helps spell it out, saying "so Drake can't talk to you if he don't write his raps." At that point, Pusha wholeheartedly agrees, even after Yee and Envy claim Drake does indeed write "some" of his raps.
Pusha plays coy, replying with "I just know what's known." The conversation proceeds to shift to Kanye West, with whom Pusha has openly disagreed. Still, it's clearly all love between the two. "He asks my opinion on it," says Pusha, referring to Ye's Trump support, "I tell him I didn't think it was a good look at all...He knows my political stance. He knows about me riding with the Hilary campaign. He knows my agenda...There's nothing that can even make me agree with him in regards to Trump."
