Grayson Allen has come into the league as a bit of an albatross. Upon being selected 21st overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, Allen looked to be the perfect compliment to a ball-hungry combo guard like Donovan Mitchell, whom the franchise is billing as their cornerstone piece. But none everything has gone to plan, including Mitchell's development in year two.
Grayson Allen has played in fourteen games in his rookie campaign with the Utah Jazz, one of which as a starter. But on Monday the merrymaking came to an end, as Allen was demoted to the G League farmhouse, the Salt Lake City Stars. With Grayson Allen at the helm of their offense for one night only, the Salt Lake City Stars managed a 40-point drubbing of the rival Rio Grande Valley Vipers, with Allen pouring 26 points of his own to lead the charge.
The 26-point performance led to a recall back to Utah Jazz for about a day, until it was decided he would be better served with a more PT (temporarily) in the lower tier, especially with recent acquisition Kyle Korver serving a lot of the same functions as Allen on both ends of the ball. Allen is averaging 10.5 minutes a game, throughout his 14 NBA games date. The Jazz are by no means giving up on their first-round pick; the G League is better served than ever to help younger players increase their profile in the pro ranks.
