Star Wars is ever expanding, especially with Disney in the driver's seat of the franchise. Since the Mouse took over the sci-fi franchise, they have inserted solo Star Wars stories into the mix of things. For the first time in Star Wars history, movies were made that didn't exclusively focus on the Skywalkers. Rogue One was an epic adventure that ended in a fashion no other Star Wars film dared, while Solo: A Star Wars Story gave an exuberant look at the origins of Han. Disney will continue to dig into their non-Skywalker stories for a new animated series called Star Wars: Resistance.
The new cartoon show will showcase events that led up to The Force Awakens. Oscar Issac and Gwendoline Christie reprise their roles as Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, respectively, while Christopher Sean gets starring duty as Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono. Xiono is sent on a mission to spy on The First Order by Poe and BB-8, which will lead him on the adventure of a lifetime. A new trailer for the series showcases the more humorous tone of the show, and it appears Resistance will be geared towards the kids. Unlike Star Wars: Clone Wars, Resistance will feature hour-long episodes. The first episode will air on October 7 at 10 PM ET/PT on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel VOD.
