Marvel needs some Oscars.

Marvel Studios has pumped out 20 movies in the last decade. From Iron-Man to Ant-Man & The Wasp, all of Marvel's movies have one thing in common. They haven't won any Oscars. Even the horribly reviewed Suicide Squad earned an Oscar for Best Makeup. Yet, Marvel has limped along without the prestigious Academy Award blessing. There have been only nine nominations for Marvel films, all of them falling within the visual arts and special effects category. None have won.

Marvel is attempting to end that streak. According to Disney's "For Your Consideration" page, which shops their movies to voters for the Oscars, Black Panther is getting an enormous Oscar's push. Disney and Marvel are chasing several nomination categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Song, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Design, Best Director, and more. In comparison, Disney is only shopping Avengers: Infinity War for one category, Best Visual Effects.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige (the man who has constructed and controlled the entire MCU since Iron-Man) called Black Panther, "the best movie we've ever made." Its depth, plot, and action were lauded by critics across the globe. Although superhero movies don't usually fare well at the Oscars, Black Panther may surprise the world.
