Fat Joe pled guilty to charges of tax evasion back in December, although the rapper is among good company. Most recently we reported on Mary J. Blige's tax problems, plus there was Lauryn Hill's highly publicized case. In the past emcees like Nas, Ja Rule and Beanie Sigel have had issues paying their taxes, even R. Kelly's been in hot water. Although this may seem like an every day occurance among rappers and celebrities, Fat Joe is taking his charges very seriously. In a new interview on MTV News, Joe spoke on the fact that he failed to pay taxes on approximately $3 million from 2007 to 2008.
While on RapFix Live, Fat Joe admitted he could be facing jail time. "I can't really explain that 'cause I got a real court case going on, like facing jail time. But I guess after June 24. Hopefully, it goes well," the rapper said.
However, Joe said he'll be paying all the money back that he owes regardless. "At the end of the day, I'm paying all the money back that's owed — actually I have and I'ma just go like a man, stand up," he said.
Joe continued to discuss how he got into his financial situation in the first place. "You gotta understand we hire guys who are supposed have Harvard degrees to take care of us," Fat Joe said. "All the time you see artists, the first thing they did to you when you caught money was introduce you to a bunch of fancy guys with bow ties who are gonna take care of your money and all that and then you always see an artist or a celebrity or somebody like that goin' down for it and these guys never go down for it."
Joe didn't want to say too much to impede his upcoming hearing, but he told RapFix he would explain what happened to him in detail after.
