Pusha T has been to war this year, pulling out all the stops against his arch nemesis Drake. Both released albums in 2018 with Pusha dropping the stellar Daytona and Drizzy coming through with his Scorpion double album. Before Kanye West decided to switch the narrative (as he regularly does) and make shorter musical projects, artists were cheating the streaming system with excessively long albums. Chris Brown's Heartbreak on a Full Moon is probably the best example, featuring over 40 songs on the tracklist. King Push was the first to release as part of G.O.O.D. Music's takeover and he clearly feels some type of way about artists dropping lengthy tracklists.
During his interview for the Red Bull Music Academy, Push spoke about all things Clipse, Daytona, and more, possibly throwing some subs at Drake in the process. The concept of stream trolling was brought up and while Culture II, Tha Carter V and others are all applicable, it's most likely that the Virginia artist had a specific man in mind when he made the following comment. He told the host, "The idea of everybody putting like 25 tracks on an album to get the streams up, it’s such a poverty way of like cheating to me."
He's previously spoken about album length, preaching for more concise bodies of work. He reiterated that here, saying, "I was like, you know what, we need to be totally against everything, and we need to have a whole other mantra in regard to what we’re doing."
Take his comments as you will. Considering the back-and-forth episodes we experienced earlier in the year, this has to be a subtle jab at his rival. Also, Scorpion has exactly 25 songs on it, so there's that.
