Anderson .Paak is gearing up to release his third studio album, Oxnard, on November 16. The California native was taken in by Dr. Dre, amplifying the anticipation for the album by ten-fold. Fortunately, .Paak has the skills to deliver. Mixing funky crooning with raspy raps, .Paak has carved out a lane for himself that is all his own. In the middle of his promo run for Oxnard, .Paak stopped by Power 106 to grace the LA Leakers with a new freestyle.
The Notorious B.I.G. and Junia M.A.F.I.A. hit single "Get Money" gets the .Paak treatment as he easily flows over the classic instrumental. "First I gotta lawyer/ moved my mom to Georgia/ copped my sis a Honda/ talked about spoiled," raps .Paak smoothly. After the freestyle, he touched on the process of crafting Oxnard. At one point in the interview, .Paak admits that Dr. Dre forced him to lock into making the album completely, effectvely barring him from doing features on other projects.
"I just couldn't divert the energy," .Paak explains. "And Dre was big on that too like, 'Yo man, just focus on this. Lock in. You got a lot of features out there, you're kinda straight on that.' I was just like 'But this is tight. SZA and Solange... everybody's sending me stuff, I wanna do stuff.' But you know, I had to really lock in."
