According to ESPN, Ricky Rubio could miss up to two weeks with left hamstring injury. There's hope he can heal quickly, but experts believe the best case timeline will rule him out for Utah's 2nd round series with the Houston Rockets. Rubio suffered the injury midway through the first quarter of Utah's game 6 triumph over the Oklahoma City Thunder, taking an awkward step after attempting a behind the back pass to teammate Rudy Gobert. The origin of the stress fracture seems to be a period of soreness in April which forced him out of action momentarily.
Rubio will sorely missed in round 2. His opening performance went above many people's heads. In game 3 he posted a triple double, which led to more Russell Westbrook petulance. Through the first five games of the playoffs, Rubio was averaging 16.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 7.8 assists, numbers well above his scoring average. Rubio's strength lies in his read of the game. He is an above average athlete with elite court vision. His rookie teammate Donovan Mitchell will likely take over ball handling duties in his absence. Mitchell has been a revelation this season, with several analysts suggesting he has a strong case for Rookie of the Year honors over Ben Simmons.
