Aminé's music video for "BLACKJACK" is set in a charter school where the students all wear the same plaid outfit. The Oregon rapper knows full-well that a private school setting is all that's needed to drive suspense. With suppression (the uniformity) comes great bouts of insanity. As Aminé shuttles between the classroom and the hallway without a pass, some but not all of his peers remain entrenched in the never-ending mystery of Beyonce's "Who is Becky?" conundrum.
It stands to reason, that a lot of peeps, Aminé-included, remain unconvinced that Beyonce was referring a textile designer when she outed her husband. The curriculum at "BLACKJACK" follows a non-linear path of development, as evidenced by the touched hive-mind of the student body.
Kidding aside, "BLACKJACK" was part of the OnePointFive project Aminé dropped in August to medium-fanfare. Although much of his output in 2018 was back-loaded, and suspiciously went unreported on several instances, "BLACKJACK" like the majority of the LP, on the whole, is very much deserving of a "better late than never" reload.
