Beyonce has (and always will) be known for her elaborate outfits and stage costumes that are simply jaw-dropping. Look at her get-ups from her joint tour with her husband Jay Z for example, sparkles, beads, lace, latex oh my! So when she and Jay took the stage at the Global Citizen's Festival this past weekend, of course, Bey came through dripping in historic, memorable pieces.
Such was the problem though since Beyonce shared the stage with Ed Sheeran at one point, as both artists sang their hearts out for their collaborative track "Perfect." Although their singing skills were on point, Ed's choice of clothing (compared to Beyonce) is what led Twitter to pull out the gender standard card, slamming Ed for contributing to the stereotypical expectations of what's expected from men and women in the spotlight.
"Ed Sheeran is a 27-year-old man the fact we’ve enabled him to feel it’s ok to dress like this at all, let alone next to Beyoncé really boils my piss," one user wrote, while another added: "This photo is v v v v representative of what we expect from men and women at the top of their game, isn't it?"
The Twitterverse continued to shade Ed for his t-shirt and jeans, but others managed to point out something else: that's just who Beyonce is and that's just who Ed is.
"This ain’t deep. Beyoncé’s brand is being a high fashion ass bitch, she’s always trying to be artistic and a showstopper bc that’s who she is. Ed Sheeran makes chill ass music, why would he wear some glitter ass suit? That’s not his brand. Y’all making something out of nothing," a user wrote.
