This past weekend marked one month since the untimely passing of Mac Miller. The rapper was found dead in his Studio City home on September 7th from an apparent overdose. Unfortunately, there have been a few fraudulent fundraising events that have been disguising themselves as tributes to Mac Miller. His rep for his family issued a statement earlier today warning fans about the unofficial events.
"The family of Malcolm McCormick, known best to the world as Mac Miller, has become aware of a number of fraudulent events recently announced under the guise of fundraising for causes on his behalf. It should be known that the only event sanctioned by his family and contributing to The Mac Miller Circles Fund is the “Mac Miller: A Celebration Of Life” event taking place in Los Angeles on October, 31. While the intent of further celebrating Malcolm’s life through these various efforts is appreciated, it is important that it be known to paying fans which of these are official or not. Mac's mother announced "The Celebration Of Life" benefit concert last week, which features performances from some of Mac Miller's closest peers in the music industry. Among the performers are Action Bronson, Chance The Rapper, Vince Staples, ScHoolboy Q, -- who delayed the release of his album due to the passing of Mac -- SZA and more. The proceeds will go towards Mac Miller's Circles Fund. The organization gives "programming, resources and opportunities to youth from underserved communities through arts and community building."
