LeBron James and Channing Tatum are both penciled in for voice roles in the animated feature Smallfoot set for release in September. Somewhere along the day, the pair got to talking and hashed out a plan to co-finance a buddy action comedy, the type Tatum generally performs well in. LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment join forces with Free Association led by Tatum and partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Together they will produce Public Enemy, described to Deadline as a "subversive action comedy" playing on the theme of "modern media" and the speed of communication. Who better to teach the children about this cruel world?
The script, written by Lucas Carter, has been snapped up by New Line Cinema. SpringHill Entertainment's James and Carter will produce the film when it receives the eventual green light for production, with Spencer Beighley and Jamal Henderson overseeing the business end of things. LeBron already has his team at SpringHill hard at work, repackaging the '90s cult hit House Party, a favorite among New Jack Swing revivalists. Tatum's role with Free Association saw him take a hefty percentage out of the 22 Jump Street and Magic Mike franchise's box office success. Hopefully this leads to LeBron finding time to act in the rumored Space Jam 2 project. All the more reason to move to LA in the off-season you would think?
