Beyonce is being showered in criticism for the last-minute endorsement of her political pick during the US midterm elections. She publicized her championship of Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke early evening on the day citizens were heading to the polls to cast their votes. Although O'Rourke prides himself in having leaned his campaign on support other than celebrity endorsements, some of his supporters attribute his loss to the tardy nature of her affirmation.
Many fans expressed their disappointment in their singing icon. One commenter propped up her clout as if Bey had the same kind of power as Oprah Winfrey.
“You have such a huge, influential voice and you wait until Election Day to post this?! Beto needed you sooner. Maybe you could’ve actually made a difference.”
“I blame Beyonce for this! Homegirl couldn’t tweet a day earlier??? #seriously #fixitjesus.”
Others focused on her lack of consideration for timing.
“Lol these posts a week ago could have made the difference in young voters.”
“You came out literally two hours before elections were over. Why didn’t you use your influence months ago.”
Beto O'Rourke lost against his Republican opponent Ted Cruz, garnering 48.3 percent of the votes compared to the winner's 50.9 percent.
