This feature highlights a hand-picked selection of some of the bigger tracks of the week. We have chosen a few of the tracks that landed within our top 25 most played, focusing on those that stood out, and left room for discussion. This edition features Danny Brown, Justin Timberlake, ScHoolBoy Q and more! Take a look at the list in the gallery above, and feel free to let us know your own favorite tracks in the comments.
Justin Timberlake- Cabaret (Feat. Drake)
Justin Timberlake supplies a pretty standard new slice of Timbo-produced funk, but the real star here is Drizzy. The OVO rapper turns in a dynamic 24-bar verse, complete with a hilarious and amazing Lil Boosie reference.
Pusha T- King Push
While it unfortunately was not produced by Joaquin Phoenix as previously reported, the "King Push" is still pretty awe-inspiring. Not unlike something Hudson Mohawke might create, the haunting instrumental serves as the perfect backdrop to Pusha's D-boy braggadocio.
Meek Mill- Make Me
One of the few tracks from DC3 that strays away from Meek's signature all caps delivery, "Make Me" is a highlight from the tape, demonstrating not only the MMG rapper's underrated incorporation of melody, but also his knack for creating new flows.
Danny Brown- Dope Fiend Rental (Feat. ScHoolboy Q)
DB's new album is very carefully divided into two sides. "Dope Fiend Rental" appears on the first, which showcases the rapper's Detroit-leaning, reflective persona. The song itself bridges the gap between this sound and the turn up anthems of side 2-- with the two emcees covering some dark themes, but still having a blast doing it.
Rich Homie Quan- Type Of Way (Remix) (Feat. Meek Mill & Jeezy)
We knew this was coming, and while it's exciting to finally have an all-star remix of the regional hit, it really could have been executed better. Jeezy's verse sounds like it was recorded Young Scooter-style through a prison phone, while Meek's furious flows seem too dramatic for the track's more subdued vibe. However, it's always good to hear Jeezy break out some melodies-- something he actually has a great ear for despite his far-from-sweet singing voice.
ScHoolboy Q- Banger (Moshpit)
Q's new track might not start moshpits, but it's certainly a banger. The track showcases ScHoolboy's ability to create street-ready tracks that knock hard while still displaying his undeniable charisma. He's also becoming a force to be reckoned with in the ad-lib game.
