Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson is feeling pretty good about his team's off-season, having secured the most coveted free agent on the market, four-time NBA MVP, LeBron James. Not to mention, it looks like Kawhi Leonard's time in Toronto will be brief and all signs point to the All-Star forward teaming with LeBron in L.A. in 2019 - but that's another story.
As the Lakers roster stands now, even with LeBron, they've still got plenty of work to do if they plan on catching the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors. That said, Magic isn't sweating the super team out in Oakland.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, the Lakers' legend said he's not scared of Golden State.
"I think that we’ll look forward to that challenge. Everybody expects Golden State to win again but I would love to have the challenge to play them in the Western Conference Finals if we can get to that position. I’m a competitor, so I’m not scared of Golden State. I’m not worried about Golden State. They don’t keep me up at night. I know that we have a really solid team, a good team, and a tough-minded team. And we got guys now who are winners."
Additionally, Magic noted the additions of LeBron, Rajon Rondo and JaVale McGee bring a "championship mentality" to the young Lakers squad after winning titles with various teams in the past.
