Stephen Colbert fights for justice. The late-night show host has always been a man who shines a spotlight on the injustices that he feels needs attention, and recently he baked special cupcakes for a student who was censored by a grocery store.
Jacob graduated from college with a 4.79 GPA, which is no easy task. His mother Cara Koscinski ordered a special celebratory cake for the occasion from Publix, a popular grocery store in the southern American states. “Congrats Jacob! Summa Cum Laude class of 2018," was the message she wanted in icing on the cake, but Publix refused to print the word "Cum," and replaced it with three blank marks instead. "A $70 cake!! He earned a 4.79 GPA. Publix refused to write the words Summa Cum Laude because I was using ‘profanity!’ They put three dashes instead of the word," wrote Cara in a Facebook post. "Shame on you Publix for turning an innocent Latin phrase into a total embarrassment for having to explain to my son and others (including my 70 year old mother) about this joke of a cake. My son was humiliated!!!"
After hearing the news, Colbert took it upon himself to bake several "Cum" cakes in honor of Jacob. "Publix, where do you get off?" joked Colbert.
