James Franco will make a return to the silver screen after his highly-praised performance as Tommy Wiseau in last year's The Disaster Artist, and the barrage of sexual misconduct allegations raised against the actor in the subsequent months.
The Pineapple Express star will take on a decidedly villainous role in the upcoming science-fiction feature Kin. The film will follow an ex-con (played by Jack Reynor) and his adopted younger brother Eli (Miles Truitt) who are forced to flee their current residence after being maliciously targeted by a criminal played by Franco and a fleet of federal agents. Eli stumbles upon a weapon formerly owned by intergalactic criminals that contains mystical powers, which will help the brothers combat the obstacles they face throughout the ensuing sequence of events.
The film is backed by Stranger Things producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen, and will be helmed by first-time directors Johnathan and Josh Baker. Dennis Quaid will play the brother's father, while Zoë Kravitz will portray a key ally for siblings on the run.
The film will make its theatrical debut on August 31. Peep the trailer below:
