There's been rumors that fans might be able to hear Dr. Dre's long-awaited Detox album in the future but there hasn't been much confirmation. However, he has been working steadily on other ventures. Over the years, he's dipped into film with Straight Outta Compton biopic and working on "The Defiant Ones" docuseries. Now, the California legend is reportedly helping bring the life of Marvin Gaye to the bring screen in his latest film venture.
Dr. Dre is reportedly working on a new film about the late Marvin Gaye, Variety reports. There's been multiple attempts to get a biopic of Marvin Gaye off the ground. F. Gary Gary, Cameron Crowe, Scott Rubin and Lenny Kravitz have all tried to help create a film about the late soul singer but never successfully received authorization from Marvin Gaye's estate.
At this point, the movie is in it's early stages. The rights to use Marvin Gaye's music in the movie have been locked down. The rights to Gaye's songwriting credits are owned by Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
The strange thing about this whole thing is that Dr. Dre is legally represented by King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano, the same law firm that defended Robin Thicke and Pharrelll during the "Blurred Lines" trial against Gaye's estate.
We'll keep you updated on more information on the Marvin Gaye biopic.
