U.K. rapper Stormzy has made a major move by offering full-ride scholarships to two black students to study at the prestigious Cambridge University this year and next year. Cambridge is among the group of Britain's top schools that face criticism for admitting mostly students from white, wealthy backgrounds. “The Stormzy Scholarship” looks to change those numbers and let Black youth know nothing is out of reach.
"With this scholarship we will be funding and covering the full tuition and maintenance for 2 black students this year and 2 black students in 2019 to study at Cambridge University," the "Big For Your Boots" rapper wrote on Instagram. "We as a minority are still heavily underrepresented at the top universities and I pray this scholarship serves as a reminder that we are more than capable of studying at places of this caliber."
He added: "This is my proudest venture thus far and I look forward to seeing some young black geniuses go on to achieve at Cambridge via this scholarship."
Applications must be sent in by August 30th.
