Will the British actor have to surrender the S on his Chest?

According to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, British actor Henry Cavill will part ways with Warner Bros and will not be returning as DC favorite, Superman.

Fans will recognize Cavill as the man of steel in the past three films. The news comes after Warner Bros reportedly attempted to secure Cavill for upcoming superhero movie Shazam! but during negotiations, both camps were faced with conflicts prompting talks to be shut down. It is said that a scheduling conflict lead to the axing of the Shazam! deal - a notion well supported by the fact that Cavill recently signed on to do a Netflix series titled The Witcher. Despite this, a source suggesting that Cavill's Netflix signing came after the doors were shut on the Shazam! deal suggesting that the decision to discontinue Cavill's run came from Warner Bros.

Additional information indicates that Warner is likely to refrain from producing a solo Superman film for the next few years. A source told The Hollywood Reporter, "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors." The source goes on to share, "There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work." Other sources say Warner is looking to re-invent the DC installments and looking for new talent to go with this transformation.

If the reports are true Cavill will join Ben Affleck, who sources say will not be reprising his role as The Dark Knight in the forthcoming Batman solo film.
