Kanye West and Malik Yussef are cooking up something substantial for thousands of Chicago residents. The idea of a special organization addressing the needs of disadvantaged communities has been in the incubator for years now. Kanye's initiative Donda Social hopes to improve infrastructure relating to housing, education, gun violence and drinking water.
Kanye's friend and G.O.O.D. Music collaborator Malik Yussef has apparently assembled a team of prominent Chicago rappers and promoters including include Common, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa and Don C. The idea is for these high ranking individuals to play to their strengths. Acting as deputies, they can thereby exert their influence by listening and engaging with these communities on the ground level. There's a hope that a meaningful dialogue can lead to practical solutions in struggling areas. In some instances the U.S. Government has failed to respond expediently, the idea is to grab the bull by the horns.
The timing of Donda Social's unveiling has been made all the more precious by Kanye's backing of Donald Trumps domestic policy. Kanye may or may not readily understand the cause and effect of Trump's position on the affordable housing crisis and the actual conditions facing African-American communities. According to TMZ, a big announcement regarding the Donda Social project is imminent.
