The MTV Video Music Awards unveiled its nominations this week with Cardi B, The Carters and Childish Gambino pulling in nods for their stunning video work that has been shared and loved by the masses this year. Among the long list of artists who have a chance of going home with a golden trophy, there's always one person who receives the most honourary gift, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
Despite rumours of it being Christina Aguilera, even more reports suggested it could be Missy Elliott. Her video work over the years has without a doubt set a precedent for creativity and thinking outside of the box that has surely inspired more than a handful of acts to this date. As much as fans would love to see Missy be blessed with the honour, unfortunately, she won't be the woman to get the prize.
"I’m seeing a lot of outlets reporting that I’m receiving the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award I wanted to clear it up that I haven’t been listed. I am still humbled by the love yall have shown," she tweeted.
So if it's not Missy, then who should it be? Let us know in the comments.
