The Suns GM gets caught double-dipping.

Even in a well stocked draft class like we have in 2018, the probability of finding a more remarkable talent than Kawhi Leonard is slim to none. According to reports around the NBA, GM Ryan McDonough of the Phoenix Suns has been exploring the option of trading his team's No.1 pick for Kawhi Leonard in a sign-and-trade deal.

Kevin O'Connor from The Ringer brought those rumors to light in his column signalling the end of the San Antonio Spurs dynasty:

"Several league sources told me they anticipate Suns general manager Ryan McDonough to probe a Leonard deal using the no. 1 pick. Phoenix explored Irving trades last summer but was reluctant to deal Josh Jackson, whom they selected with the fourth overall pick," he wrote.

Besides the grumblings, the idea that Leonard is a better overall player than Irving gives probable cause. According to the same report, GM McDonough has expressed that drafting Arizona big man DeAndre Ayton with the first pick is anything but a foregone conclusion. However improbable this deal may seem, given the Sun's tight cap situation, and a real dearth of trade assets, Suns fans will be happy to see management show a little ambition for once.
