Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Rashaad Penny, one of the favorite "sleeper picks" of fantasy football players everywhere, will reportedly be sidelined for 3-4 weeks after suffering a broken finger in Monday's practice. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Penny flew to Philadelphia last night and is having surgery to repair the finger injury that includes a broken bone first thing Wednesday morning.

The timeline for Penny's return puts him right up against the start of the NFL regular season, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Penny “should be ready by Week 1." Schefter also notes that the injury requires "minor surgery" and that Penny would have played through the pain if it were late in the season of the playoffs.

The Seahawks selected Penny out of San Diego State University with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, after he rushed for 2,248 yards and a whopping 23 touchdowns during his senior season. The 22-year old back has been a popular pick amongst fantasy football experts, despite the fact that he'll likely share duties in the Seahawks backfield with Chris Carson, at least early on in the season.

With or without Penny, Seattle will open up the 2018 regular season on September 9 with a road game against the Denver Broncos.
