Lil Xan had a rough go of it last year. Aside from becoming somewhat of a laughing stock, the young rapper found himself losing a friend and idol in Mac Miller. Of course, the rapper didn't help his cause by releasing a string of mediocrity, in which his effort level was impressively lackluster. Of course, the man was going through thangs, so we can only hope that some of his weaker selections can be attributed to external causes. Yet as it stands, Xan has something to prove, at least if he wants any shot of sustainable longevity.
Now, Xan has come through with a new song called "Watch Me Fall," which finds him, at least temporarily, forsaking the "fuhdatbih" crutch in favor of a vibey melody. In truth, it's likely Xan's most cohesive single in a minute, with his vulnerability taking center stage. Creaking falsetto signals a man on the verge of breaking, and rest assured, it arrives in abundance. You won't find much in the way of innovation, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.

And if you run away
I swear to God I'll chase you, girl
You know me and how I be
