UFC fighter Michael Chiesa has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Conor McGregor for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress stemming from McGregor's rampage at the Barclay's Center back in April. According to the lawsuit filed in state court in New York (H/T TMZ Sports), Chiesa says he also suffered "severe emotional distress, mental trauma and/or bodily harm."
Chiesa, 30, had been scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 223 but was unable to compete after suffering cuts to his face and body during McGregor's infamous bus attack. Chiesa later lost to Pettis via second-round submission at UFC 226, but he's still looking to recoup the pay check he lost ahead of UFC 223.
According to TMZ Sports, Chiesa doesn't specify how much money he's seeking in the lawsuit, but it is believed he's looking for a big number because part of the damages he's seeking are the checks he lost due to missing the UFC event in April.
In addition to his suit against McGregor, Chiesa is also going after the Barclay's Center for negligence, claiming they failed "to engage in proper security measures to protect the plaintiff and other patrons."
McGregor, 30, plead guilty to a single violation of disorderly conduct in Brooklyn criminal court back in July as part of a plea deal. He was required to pay full restitution to the bus company for any damages suffered (which McGregor has already fulfilled according to ESPN), five days of community service and an anger management program lasting 1-3 days. McGregor had faced 12 criminal charges related to the melee at Barclays, including two felony criminal mischief charges, which carried a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
The Irish superstar is scheduled to take on undefeated Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, at UFC 229 in Las Vegas on October 6.
