The aftermath of UFC 229 has left us with many questions but one thing is certain: The Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor feud isn't over. Despite Khabib's dominant performance at Saturday's PPV, in which McGregor tapped out in the fourth round, the Irish superstar is already campaigning for a rematch against the undefeated Lightweight champ.
Of course, it remains to be seen what kind of discipline Khabib will face as a result of the post-fight brawl, but once everything is sorted out McGregor appears eager to get back in the octagon. Shortly after UFC 229, McGregor tweeted, "Good knock. Looking forward to the rematch."
During an appearance on ESPN First Take today, UFC President Dana White explained that McGregor has already called requesting a rematch. White says (h/t Brett Okamoto of ESPN), "[Nurmagomedov] has to go before the Nevada commission, and we have to see what's going to happen with Khabib and this whole mess. But McGregor has already called me, wanting a rematch. That's what Conor has asked for. We'll see what happens with Khabib and what's next."
McGregor's coach John Kavanagh echoed that statement during an interview with Joe Rogan today, saying that McGregor was talking rematch immediately after the conclusion of UFC 229.
While Khabib vs McGregor II would definitely do numbers, there are other fighters who are looking for a title shot as well. For instance, Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been lined up three different times to fight and it still hasn't happened. After Ferguson's victory at UFC 229, many believe he should be the next challenger, and rightfully so.
However, the UFC is a business at the end of the day and if there's one guy who can demand a fight that is guaranteed to break the box office, it's Conor McGregor.
