A police officer was shot in Baltimore today (May 21) at around 2pm EST. CBS reports that the officer was a female and was investigating a report about suspicious vehicles when she was killed on Belair and Klausmier. She was shot in the head, and transported to Medstar Franklin Square hospital where she was pronounced dead. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan tweeted, "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a Baltimore County Police Officer after she was shot in the line of duty today. Our prayers go out to this brave officer's family, @BACOPoliceFire, and the Baltimore County community," in response to the tragedy. He also shared a tweet from police that stated roads would be shut down while a manhunt continues. "Residents in the area of Belair Road and Klausmeier Road should shelter in place due to ongoing #BCoPD incident. Motorists should avoid Belair Road from Forge Road to Ebenezer Road. #BCoPD is searching for an armed suspect."
Gunpowder, Perry Hall, Seven Oaks Carney elementary schools were placed on alert status. Police stated that "the schools WILL NOT be dismissed at this time, and DO NOT attempt to respond to the school. Call school administrators for further instructions."
