We reported back in March, that the Obamas were negotiating a deal with Netflix. Things have moved along swiftly, as the former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have now inked a multi-year agreement to produce TV shows and films for the streaming service.
The deal will allow the Obamas take their journey to the next level, reaching hundreds of millions of people nationally and internationally.
The couple created their own production company called, High Ground Productions; word on the street is that the company was made specifically to produce content for Netflix.
The Obamas have established Higher Ground Productions as the entity under which they will produce content for Netflix.
But if you’re hoping the Obamas will use this deal to wage an anti-right campaign against the conservatives, specifically Trump, then think again. The New York Times reported the Obamas “has told associates that he does not intend to use the new platform to wage a public campaign against his successor in the Oval Office, or to fight against conservative media outlets like Fox News.” So there’s that.
However, what they will do, is produce a “diverse mix of content, including the potential for scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries and features."
At this point, the former president is a well-trained pro, saying “One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience.” He added. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix – we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”
