Father's Day is supposed to be a holiday where honorable dads, and the men that play fatherly roles, are rewarded and celebrated. Although fathers may not get the same kind of love that mothers receive on their holiday (mom gets new jewelry, dad gets a mug), they still deserve to be exalted for their day. American Greetings, a greeting card company based in Clevland, Ohio, couldn't tell the difference between a father and a baby daddy though, which has earned them an enormous amount of backlash.
American Greetings created a Father's Day card for baby daddies in all seriousness. It was not a joke when they decided to place a Black couple on the cover of a greeting card that read "Baby Daddy" in a putrid pink font. Inside the card read, "You’re a wonderful husband and father — and I’m so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy!" Once again, this was not a joke. After the card was discovered at Target, angry customers began to criticize the company on social media. In a statement to the New York Post, American Greetings said, "This particular card was created for, and addressed to, a loving husband — which the inside copy makes clear." Obviously, they are clueless about the definition of a baby daddy. After being met with outrage, American Greetings took the card off their website, and Target has also removed the card from their stores.
