Donald Trump recently took to Fox News' Fox and Friends to speak about his experience meeting with former nuclear rival Kim Jung-Un of North Korea. Speaking about the highly-contested dictator, the current Commander in Chief notes how "he’s the head of the country, and I mean he’s the strong head. Don’t let anyone think anything different."
Trump continued to admit that when "he speaks and his people sit up at attention. I want my people to do the same." Whilst uttering the sentiment, the president gestured towards the White House, implying that his "people" are his political colleagues, not the American public.
Trump later told reporters that he was joking, stating how "you don't understand sarcasm."
Since meeting with the North Korean leader, Trump has been showering him with praise, referring to his former enemy as "funny," "smart," "very talented," and someone who "loves his people."
The last sentiment comes in stark contrast to widespread human rights violations aimed squarely at the dictator and his murderous regime, which include executions and starvations.
Trump is forthright in his efforts to establish a favourable rapport with Jung-Un. "I don’t want to see a nuclear weapon destroy you and your family. I want to have a good relationship with North Korea. I want to have a good relationship with many countries."
