The Kid Daytona has steadily been making a name of himself. The Bronx lyricist began his rap career while still in high school as a member of a group named The Aces. Though the group split shortly after signing with Atlantic Records in 2002, Daytona went on to produce music with artists like Bun B, Capone-N-Noreaga, Talib Kweli, Travie McCoy, Estelle, J Dilla, Nina Sky, and more.

Speaking about when his love of Hip Hop developed, Daytona told, aboveGround, "Basically man, I was born in Antigua, and came over here at 3 years old to NY. I had an uncle 13 years older than me that was a real influential part of my life. He used to be in the crib cutting up records on the Technics. When I came through, I was hearin’ him cut up Rock the Bells and Slick Rick, EPMD, KRS-One. I looked up to him so much, that’s where I really fell in love with the culture. Growing up in the South Bronx, seeing different things and being around different situations."

The artist has continued to explore his love of hip-hop with his latest release, a music video for his song 1989 house music infused track, "Have You." In the video, Daytona shows fans his more romantic side as he serenades his love interest in a series of artfully captured frames.
