Similar to Lil Uzi Vert, whose ethos he sometimes embodies, Trippie Redd has been outspoken in his love of different genres outside of hip-hop, including outlier artists in general, and definitely Nirvana. In between drama with Tekashi 6ix9ine that is getting more and more complicated to unpack, the rapper has been performing at festivals like Rolling Loud, and creating his next album in the studio. We just found out the project would be a double-disc, the latest trend to help an artist milk streaming for all its worth (and in some ways, props to them, considering the miniscule amounts of money that they are bringing in with each stream).
Delving further into the double-disc idea, Trippie revealed that one side would be more rock and r'n'b-laden, and the other side would be certified bangers, including a song with Quavo. Thus, this new record he's previewing on Instagram will likely end up on the former side. It's clearly a Nirvana-inspired song, with the caption paying homage to Kurt Cobain. Trippie wrote, "ROAD KILL R.I.P KURT I LOVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOUL TO DEATH *INSPIRED*"
Inspired indeed. Over a grungy guitar riff, you can hear Trippie's brash vocals, singing a la Kurt.
