Donald Trump speaks candidly about the "good relationship" he once had with Oprah Winfrey.

You may be surprised to learn that United States President Donald Trump and television mogul Oprah Winfrey were reportedly once good friends. Their relationship is said to have formed in the mid-1980s just as Oprah's show was in its developmental stages. In fact, during a 1988 appearance on the show, a young Trump expressed presidential aspirations

During a campaign run for Brian Kemp, a Georgia governor hopeful, Tump divulged details about his friendship with Winfrey who has been campaigning for Kemp's opponent, Stacy Abrams. Trump revealed that the dynamic of his relationship with Oprah purportedly changed once he began his bid for the presidency. “Once I ran for office she diverged," he said. "[She] has been down to Mar-A-Lago...until I ran for office we did very well. We had a good relationship. I like Oprah.” Trump went on to express suspicions that Oprah's team was working very hard to bury a tape of his 2011 appearance in one of the Oprah Show's pivotal, final episodes.  “Oprah, when she ended her show, had the five most important people. I assume. Her last week,” he said. “Remember her last week. Well, I was on her full show in the last week. I think they are trying the burn the tape.”

The admission comes after Trump condemned Oprah for her involvement in a 60 Minutes segment in which she interviewed both Trump voters and non-Trump voters. “The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!” he tweeted after commenting that Winfrey was "very insecure."

“Oprah was here endorse Stacey and I am here to endorse Brian," Trump said during the campaign run for Kemp. "And you know what? I hope you are going to listen to my endorsement."
